Advantages of Oil Immersed Transformer

1000 Kva Oil Filled Transformer suppliers

Cost-Effective
They allow for cheap installation and maintenance and the need for change is minimal since the transformer is robust.

Reliable and Durable
The transformers can sustain a variety of environmental conditions with low rates of failure which makes them dependable for long periods.

High Efficiency
Less energy losses, enable oil immersed transformers to perform excellently under heavy loads.

Efficient Cooling
Oil absorbs dissolves and radiates heat efficiently to avoid overheating of the transformer as well as consistent transformer operation at high loads.

Enhanced Insulation and Safety
The oil acts as an insulating cover for the windings reducing the risk of electrical discharges and increasing the life span of the transformer.

Versatile Applications
They can be used for power networks, renewable energy systems, and industrial applications since they come in different sizes and capacities.

Safety Features
They contain protective devices such as the Buchholz relay which prevents damage by detecting acids. In addition, there is moisture protection which has a silica gel breather.

1. Ensure that the transformer is de-energized and offline before performing any maintenance work.

2. Visually inspect the equipment for any rust, dirt accumulation, chipped paint, or discoloration.

3. Listen to the unit when it is energized for any signs of abnormal vibrations or noise.

4. Clean the transformer and remove all signs of dust, debris, and dirt from it.

5. Check the transformer temperature and oil level indicators.

6. Inspect all cables, bolts, and hardware for tightness. Tighten anything that may be loose.

7. Re-energize the transformer before performing tests and analyses like breakdown voltage testing or infrared temperature analysis.

8. Inspect the transformer for signs of leakages. If found, address the leak immediately. If a transformer leaks often, it might be better to fully replace the transformer unit. Common sources of transformer oil leaks are bad gaskets, improperly welded points, and the presence of rust on the bottom of the unit.

9. Record all events and conditions of the maintenance work. For example, note down the names of the workers, which parts of the transformer they work on, how and when they do their maintenance duties, etc.

FAQ

Q: What are oil-immersed transformers used for?

A: They are critical components for high-voltage power transmission and distribution, highly valued for their superior performance under sustained heavy loads. They are deployed extensively in utilities, large industrial facilities, and demanding commercial centers where reliability is paramount.

Q: What is the lifespan of oil-immersed transformers?

A: With adherence to a stringent predictive maintenance protocol—primarily focused on Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and oil quality checks—these units are engineered to achieve an operational lifespan often exceeding 30 years.

Q: Are oil-immersed transformers environmentally friendly?

A: Yes, when managed responsibly. Their environmental impact is minimized by adhering to strict oil recycling and disposal protocols, and by utilizing natural or synthetic ester fluids, which are readily biodegradable alternatives to mineral oil.

Q: What safety features do oil-immersed transformers have?

A: They are equipped with multiple safety mechanisms, including Pressure Relief Valves to manage internal pressure, thermal sensors for overheating prevention, and robust hermetic sealing to prevent external contamination and oil spills.

Q: Can oil-filled transformers work in extreme temperatures?

A: Yes. Many are designed to operate between -40°C to +50°C, depending on the cooling type and oil used.

Q: How do oil-filled transformers work?

A: The windings and core are submerged in transformer oil. It acts as a cooling agent and an insulator. Convection moves the oil through the windings, coils, and core, keeping the transformer from overheating. Oil is further cooled externally at lower voltage and in an air-cooled radiator with higher voltages.
